KEJRIWAL, BJP-RULED NORTH DELHI MCD HURT THE SENTIMENTS OF THE MINORITIES AND OTHER FAITHFUL IN CHANDNI CHOWK—AJAY MAKEN.

NEW DELHI, April 7—Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Ajay Maken today strongly criticized the demolition of a drinking water kiosk  outside the Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib,  drinking water kiosks (piao) outside the Digambar Jain Lal Mandir and the Gauri Shankar Mandir  in Chandni Chowk, which he termed as an attack on the religious freedom  of the minority community and the faithful, as the action had invited wide-spread protest from the people. Shri Maken said Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib is a historic place of worship of the Sikh community where the Sikhs Ninth Guru Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Saheb sacrificed his life to protect the honour of the religion.

He said it was an attempt to create unrest and fear among the minority community as the Aam Aadmi Party Government of Arvind Kejriwal and the BJP-ruled North Delhi Municipal Corporation were hand in gloves. He said these facilities were for the benefit of the people, and not to cause any hindrance to them, as they were quenching the thirst of the people as the   weather hots up. Shri Maken said Kejriwal and the BJP leadership should apologise to the people for this high-handed action.

Shri Maken said the plea that these facilities were demolished by the North Delhi MC and the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation  as part of the development work in Chandni Chowk did not hold much water as these constructions were existing for years and with the demolition of these structures, the AAP Government and the BJP have not only hurt the sentiments of the minority community, but also other believers as lakhs of people from all faiths visit these shrines every day.

Shri Ajay Maken said when the  Delhi Metro began constructions and later expanded its network to most parts of Delhi and the NCR regions, special care was taken not to demolish historic and religious structures so as not to hurt the sentiments of the faithful. Shri Maken said  such a brazen act of demolishing these structures by the authorities with the approval  of the Delhi Government and the BJP-ruled North Delhi MC showed that they were against the minorities, as after being in power for over one year, the Aam Aadmi Party was showing its true coloures while the BJP had always been against the interest of the minorities.
