Kejriwal government did not cooperate with Central Government in reducing pollution: Vijay Goel
New Delhi, October 20, 2019: Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and MP Vijay Goel lead a cycle yatra with hundreds of people from Vijay Goel’s residence to Rajghat from the Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg. The cycle yatra was undertaken to spread awareness on pollution and agitate against the Kejriwal government for its inaction on pollution. The people were holding the slogans of “Pollution ki jimmedar, Kejriwal sarkaar”, “Boycott Single Use Plastic”, “Zero Action, Only Pollution”.
Undertaking the cycle yatra which was joined by large number of children, Goel said that it is crucial to spread the awareness about the pollution levels in Delhi. Goel blamed the Kejriwal government for high pollution levels in Delhi. The Kejriwal government had blocked the implementation of Metro Phase IV project, has not procured buses for efficient public transport, and has been impeding the Delhi-Meerut Rapid Corridor as well. For five years, Kejriwal did not do anything to reduce pollution levels in Delhi.
Goel said that stubble burning only contributes to 10% of pollution levels in Delhi. It is the internal causes which need to be addressed to mitigate pollution levels. Goel said that on Gandhi ji’s 150th birth anniversary, it is pertinent to note that even Gandhi ji himself had said that “though nature provides air and water for free, humans have put a price on these as well”. Citing the air purifier industry as “sunrise” industry, Goel told that the sale of air purifiers has soared by 10 times in Delhi because of bad air. Kejriwal government has been misleading the people of Delhi by unscrupulously spending crores on advertisements. He has failed to control plastic waste burning, solve traffic problem, and even in planting saplings. Kejriwal did not procure vacuum machines to clean roads, sprinkling machines etc.
Applauding the Central Government, Goel said that the Eastern-Western Peripheral Highway has contributed most in reducing the pollution in Delhi, Badarpur plant has been shut down, industries have shifted to cleaner fuels, loops have been constructed in Dhaula Kuan and soon Delhi will switch to BS VI norms.
Union Minister Naqvi was also present at the cycle yatra. Naqvi said that the rising pollution levels in Delhi are a cause of worry. Naqvi said that the Kejriwal government has been irresponsible in last five years and is now crying wolf to attract attention and gather votes.
