Leaving with a sense of accomplishment, says UU Lalit on his last day as CJI

New Delhi, Nov 7, 2022: On Monday, outgoing CJI UU Lalit shared that he is a leaving with a sense of accomplishment, accompanied by a feeling of satisfaction as he walked out of the Supreme Court for the last time.

While taking his oath, CJI Lalit had promised to have one constitutional bench functioning throughout the year. “Every SC judge must have equal opportunity to be a part of a Constitution Bench,” he said.

Speaking of his accomplishment, Justice UU Lalit said: “I have practised here for 37 years. But I have never seen two Constitution benches sitting simultaneously. But under my tenure, on a particular day, three Constitutional benches were hearing matters at the same time.”

Justice Chandrachud will be sworn in as the new CJI on Tuesday. Speaking at ceremonial bench hearing, CJI-designate Chandrachud said: “His reforms will indeed stand the test of time. His sobriety has added dignity to the office. Thank you.”

Senior Advocate Vikas Singh, President of Supreme Court Bar Association, gifted the outgoing CJI Lalit a memorabilia signed by the members of the Bar.
