New Delhi, 30 October 2022: Once again coming on loggerheads with the elected government, Delhi LG has advised Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to reconsider the “Red light on, Gaadi off” campaign on Saturday., questioning the usefulness of such an “ad-hoc” solution.
The Delhi administration had earlier criticised Saxena, claiming that the delay in the proposal’s approval had compelled them to delay the campaign’s debut on October 28. However, according to officials in the LG office, environment minister, Gopal Rai lied because the chief minister’s paperwork stated the launch date as October 31.
According to a source, “The LG has handed the dossier to Chief Minister Kejriwal with the recommendation to review the idea.” He took issue with the “inhuman” and “exploitative use” of Civil Defence Volunteers (CDVs) in highly polluted traffic intersections and locations.
The campaign is centered on putting a small group of people in danger to protect the health of a big group that is defective and devoid of any obvious precedence in other civilised urban areas.
They added that establishing long-term technical solutions for such measures’ enforcement is better to using humans and endangering them.
The LG has also made clear that the proposal does not take into account the results of the preceding initiatives, nor is there an impact assessment study to attest to their success in raising the city’s air quality.
The various threats to the volunteers’ safety and health that are intended to be deployed at traffic crosswalks as part of the campaign, according to the sources, “also need significant attention.”
The LG further pointed out that from October 12 to October 31, the proposal was pending at the chief minister’s level, and that it was only on October 31 that the file arrived at his office.
