Licences to mine sand at farms put on hold

The Gautam Budh Nagar mining department has put a freeze on issuing licenses that allow removal of sand accumulated on farmlands for sale in commercial markets. The ban follows a stay imposed by Allahabad high court upon a UP government order of August 29 through which district authorities had been empowered to issue the licences, said officials.
