New Delhi (India), 13th May 2023: Elon Musk has finally stated that NBCUniversal’s Linda Yaccarino, an executive with significant ties to the advertising sector, will be the new CEO of Twitter.
Musk wrote in a late Friday tweet, “I am excited to welcome Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter! Looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the everything app.”
He further stated that Yaccarino will focus on business operations and that he (Musk) will remain at the firm and will work closely with the product designing teams and on new technology development.
Prior to that news, NBCUniversal said on Friday that Yaccarino will step down as chairperson of global advertising and partnerships effective immediately.
Musk and Yaccarino have shared a close friendship, with Yaccarino interviewing Musk last month at a large advertising convention in Miami and referring to him as “friend” and “buddy” on stage.
Yaccarino repeatedly stated in her discussion with Musk that marketers are searching for protection from Twitter. At one point, she asked Musk directly if he felt he had “de-risked” the platform sufficiently to assure advertisers that their advertisements would not appear in “awful hateful places.”
Musk, who bought Twitter this past fall and has been running it since and has long insisted on stepping aside as CEO of the firm, now known as X Corp.
