LT. GOVERNOR SHOULD RECOMMEND REMOVAL OF DERC CHAIRMAN-HARISH KHURANA

Delhi BJP Media Convener Harish Khurana has demanded Lt. Governor of Delhi that he should recommend removal of DERC Chairman who was hand in glove with the former Congress Government of Delhi and on the charges of working against the interest of the people of Delhi and failure to supply sufficient power to the people of Delhi.

Delhi BJP has held the former Congress Government and former AAP Government responsible for the severe shortage of power in Delhi. In its release, the party has asked that where is the action plan issued by the Government and the power companies? When the Summer Action Plan was being prepared, where was the head of Government Arvind Kejriwal? How the Congress and AAP Party can hold the two weeks old Government at Centre responsible for the severe shortage of power in Delhi?

BJP has been demanding the Congress party for the last 15 years that after privatization of power supply, the people of Delhi should be supplied power 24×7. Getting power supply is the basic right of every citizen. The former Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit was hand in glove with the private power companies and hence they did not take care of the interest of the people and increased power tariff again and again. Sheila Government granted subsidy to the power companies from public exchequer. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also did the same thing. He granted subsidy of hundred of crores to the power companies and failed to fulfill the promise of decreasing power tariff by 50 percent after coming to power. Now the Congress and AAP Party are targeting the BJP. The reality is that the Congress Government and AAP Government are directly responsible for the acute shortage of water and power in Delhi. Former Congress Governments did not take concrete steps to increase power production during the last 15 years in view of the increasing needs of Delhi.

In the action plan, it was stated that arrangements have been made for supplying 6000 mw power to the people of Delhi in this summer season. Delhi recorded the high temperature of 47.8 degree which is highest in the last 62 years. People of Delhi are suffering due to scorching summer season and the power companies are not providing relief. The first priority of power companies is to earn profit from the people and this is the reason why the power tariff has not been decreased even after curb on power theft. Lakhs of students are visiting DU campus for filling the admission forms in this scorching summer season. There are thousands of students who do not have computers and are taking the help of cyber cafes. Even these cafes are not helping because there is no power supply. People are also facing the crisis of water supply because of power failure. 70 percent of the people have to depend on booster pump for getting power supply. The conditions are so bad that the people have to skip taking bath and go to their work ways without it.
