Mumbai, 07th July 2023: Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde late Friday night to discuss power sharing, just days after Ajit Pawar’s breakaway Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) party joined the Maharashtra coalition government.

Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis discussed cabinet enlargement after the inauguration of a third ally, Ajit Pawar, as Deputy Chief Minister on Sunday, in a meeting that lasted till 2 a.m.

The talks were held just hours after the Shinde camp denied allegations that its MLAs were unhappy with Ajit Pawar’s inclusion in the ruling coalition. The party stated that Eknath Shinde had no intention of resigning as Chief Minister.

Eknath Shinde, too, denied any divisions within the party. “With our government now comprised of three parties, our MLA strength exceeds 200.” Our government is only becoming more powerful. “We have the backing of Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah,” added the Chief Minister.

According to reports, some Shiv Sena MPs expressed reservations after the NCP faction led by Ajit Pawar joined the state cabinet. Ajit Pawar’s declaration that he “wants to be the Chief Minister” also caused a stir in political circles.
