New Delhi, July 11, 2023: In a sharp retort to Uddhav Thackeray’s recent criticism, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made a scathing remark, suggesting that the Shiv Sena (UBT) chief might require psychiatric help. Fadnavis further emphasized that he would refrain from responding to statements made under such a mental state.
The exchange of verbal blows commenced after Thackeray referred to Fadnavis as a “kalank” (taint) on his hometown Nagpur, citing Fadnavis’ alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) despite previously asserting he would never do so. During a gathering of party workers in Nagpur, Thackeray played an audio clip of Fadnavis stating his nonalignment with the NCP, insinuating that Fadnavis’s “no means yes.”
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) swiftly condemned Thackeray’s comment, with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, a representative from Nagpur, stating that personal allegations at such a low level do not align with the political culture of the state. Gadkari also stressed the importance of maintaining decorum in political discourse.
Fadnavis responded to Thackeray’s remarks, expressing his pity towards his old friend and current political rival, suggesting that Thackeray might require psychiatric intervention. The remark was delivered during a press conference, where Fadnavis criticized Thackeray’s thinking.
Meanwhile, BJP supporters staged a protest against Thackeray in Nagpur, and the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the party’s youth wing, organized a mock funeral procession of Thackeray in the Sitabuldi area.
Chandrashekhar Bawankule, a BJP leader, cautioned that continued insults toward Fadnavis and Union Home Minister Amit Shah by Thackeray could potentially provoke a law and order situation in the state. Bawankule further stated that the BJP would not bear responsibility for any consequences arising from such provocations, warning that they would respond resolutely.
As tensions escalate between the two political parties, the discourse has taken an unfortunate turn. The use of derogatory language and personal allegations has overshadowed discussions on developmental initiatives, undermining the political culture of Maharashtra.
