Maharashtra signs MOUs worth over Rs. One lakh crore ($12.3 billion)

Davos, Switzerland, 17 January 2024: The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, India, Shri. Eknath Shinde, embarked on his visit to the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2024, by signing Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with prominent global companies across sectors. The Chief Minister of Maharashtra is leading a delegation to the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum, Davos, to stamp the authority of the state as the primary investment destination in South Asia. Furthermore, with Maharashtra, taking a leap in futuristic infrastructure, and growing urbanization, the CM is poised to engage with global leaders for dialogue on creation of innovative urban spaces enabled with digitisation.

On the very first day of his visit, led by Shri Eknath Shinde and Minister of Industries, Shri Uday Samant, signed MoUs with numerous leading global and Indian companies, including B C Jindal for a Display Fab unit, AB InBev, JSW Steel – EoI, Godrej Agrovet and Inox Air Products. These MoUs pertain to ESDM, F&B, renewables, IT/ITES and agriculture bringing in investments to the tune of One lakh Crore, generating substantial employment for the people across Maharashtra.

Shri Shinde’s visit began with the inauguration of the Maharashtra Pavilion, which underscored the economic and infrastructure capabilities of a future-ready Maharashtra backed by world-class developmental and sectoral policies. The Maharashtra Pavilion stood out as an anchor to India’s Viksit Bharat goal of being a developed economy by 2047. Global leaders from diplomatic, business and government communities noted the role of Maharashtra as India’s developmental engine.

During his engagements, to foster bilateral collaborations and explore avenues for mutual economic development, Shri Shinde individually met Oman’s Minister for Industries, HE Qais, Minister of Economy UAE, Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri and Kim Dong Yeon, the Governor of Gyoggi Province of South Korea. Shri Shinde engaged in highly productive discussions with these leaders, exploring potential investment opportunities in Maharashtra from these countries. Bilateral partnership opportunities were discussed in Food Processing, sustainable tourism, digital transformation, semiconductors and creating a future-ready skilled manpower blueprint for Maharashtra.

Shri Shinde additionally held constructive discussions with senior delegates from the Presidency of Electricity, South Africa, H.E. Ramokgopa, and held talks with Mr. David Chrobok, Chairman of Witkowitz Atomica, focusing on Nuclear Green Energy.

Apart from Government dignitaries, Shri Shinde also met with senior representatives from Schneider Electric, Mr. Manish Pant, and executives from Louis Dreyfus, including CEO Michael Gelchie and CSO Mr. Thomas Couteaudier to share insights on Maharashtra’s initiatives, and enhance international understanding of the state’s economic and developmental endeavours.

Shri Shinde’s strategic efforts exemplified the government’s commitment to achieving economic milestones and reinforcing Maharashtra’s unique position in the global landscape. These successful meetings with international leaders further bolstered Maharashtra’s investor-friendly policies and set the stage for accelerated economic growth.

During WEF 2023, under the guidance of Shri Shinde, Maharashtra secured an impressive INR 1.4 lac crore investment commitment, signing key MOUs with global giants like Berkshire Hathaway and Greenko Energy Projects. These agreements are poised to generate over 1 lakh jobs in vital sectors across Maharashtra, affirming the state’s role as India’s stable and dependable gateway for global investors.

The Chief Minister actively engaged in strategic discussions to forge impactful collaborations and showcase Maharashtra’s stability, dependability, and commitment to global economic progress at the WEF 2024.
