New Delhi, 15th May 2023: More than a week after the violence breaking out in the Manipur region, the state Chief Minister N Biren Singh met up with Home Minister Amit Shah to brief him about the situation in the states and the demands that the tribal MLAs have put forward.
In a press conference, Manipur Health Minister Sr Sapam Ranjan Singh confirmed the two leaders’ meeting and added that they were joined by four other cabinet ministers from Manipur and the state BJP Chief Sarada Devi.
The leaders convened together after ethnic violence broke out between the state’s Meiteis and the Kuki tribals. CM Singh also is reported to have spoken about the Meitei demand for a ‘separate administration.’ CM Singh is also expected to deliver a press conference tomorrow.
Reports confirm that the CM is tasked to handle this matter carefully and ensure preventive measures to avoid another escalation of the clashes. The clashes broke out earlier this month after a ‘tribal solidarity march’ was held in 10 districts of the state against the Meiteis’ demand for a Scheduled Tribe or ST status for them.
