Manmohan Singh condemns demonetisation again: ‘Negative shock’ to economy; grievous injury to the ‘honest Indian’
New Delhi, Dec 9: Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has emerged as one of the most formidable critic of the Narendra Modi government’s decision to demonetise old notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000. After terming the move as a ‘monumental failure’ in the Parliament, Manmohan has once again lambasted the government using harsh words. In a column he penned for The Hindu, Manmohan Singh described demonetisation as a ‘negative shock’ to the economy and added that it has caused grievous injury to the ‘honest Indian’.
Manmohan accused Prime Minister Modi of spreading the ‘false notion’ that ‘all cash is black money and all black money is in cash’. He further added that the manner in which demonetisation was implemented is a violation of the fundamental duty of a democratically elected government. “In one impetuous decision, the Prime Minister has shattered the faith and confidence that hundreds of millions of Indians had reposed in the Government of India to protect them and their money,” Manmohan said in his column.
