Manmohan Singh was extraordinary but country was stalled during UPA: Narayana Murthy

Gujarat, Sept 24th, 2022: Narayana Murthy, founder of IT giant Infosys on Friday asserted that India failed economically and lacked in taking imperative decisions during Manmohan Singh’s reign as Prime Minister.
Murthy was speaking to students and young entrepreneurs at Ahmedabad’s Indian Institute of Management(IIM).
He said that when he was on the board of HSBC in 2008, India’s name during meetings would be hardly taken once whereas China was mentioned multiple times.
“When I left HSBC in 2012, China’s name used to be mentioned almost 30 times during meetings whereas India was not even mentioned once”, he said.
“(Former PM) Manmohan Singh was an extraordinary individual and I have tremendous respect for him. But, somehow, India stalled (during UPA-era). Decisions were not taken and everything was delayed,” said Murthy.
Addressing the students he further said that it was their responsibility to make India proud and ensure that our country’s name is mentioned more than any other country, especially China.
“When I was of your age, there was not much responsibility because not much was expected from neither me nor India. Today, there is an expectation that you will take the country forward. I think you people can make India a worthy competitor of China,” said Murthy.
The software industry veteran praised the Narendra Modi-led government for creating initiatives like ‘Make in India’ and ‘Startup India’ which have significantly helped to boost India’s standards and economy.
