Massive Fire Erupts in Ahmedabad Hospital, 125 Patients Evacuated

Ahmedabad, Gujarat, July 30, 2023: A major fire broke out in the basement of a 10-storey hospital in Ahmedabad city, Gujarat, on Sunday, prompting the safe evacuation of approximately 125 patients as a precautionary measure, according to officials. The incident occurred at Rajasthan Hospital, located in the city’s Sahibaug area, and so far, there have been no reports of casualties.

Inspector M D Champavat from Sahibaug police station confirmed that the fire started at around 4.30 am in the hospital’s basement, where renovation work was underway. Several items stored in the basement caught fire, leading to significant smoke engulfing the area.

Firefighting teams immediately rushed to the scene to control the blaze, which originated in the second basement of the hospital. Approximately two dozen firefighting vehicles were deployed to combat the fire and prevent its spread.

As a precautionary measure, authorities swiftly evacuated around 125 patients from the hospital to different healthcare facilities in the vicinity. The hospital, which operates under a charitable trust, has been actively coordinating efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of all patients.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Jayesh Khadia mentioned that the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and investigations are underway.
