MCD Checks for Mosquito Breeding at Construction Sites in Delhi, fines violators

New Delhi, 31 August 2022: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has recently launched a special action to recognise the mosquito breeding sites in construction areas that are a major breeding grounds and intend to punish the owners of such sites.

The special initiative led to the inspection of about 1,196 construction sites and mosquito breeding sites were observed at 278 sites in all districts of the Central, Southern, Western and Najafgarh zones. These sites were in Ambedkar Nagar, Pushp Vihar, Khanpur, Mohan Garden, Hari Vihar, Kakrola and Najafgarh, officials said.

The MCD has also stated that the relevant civic body has taken strict action and issued 107 challans and 117 notices.

Additionally, the health department of MCD has been trying to spread awareness by distributing leaflets, sticking stickers and displaying banners at various construction sites in the Central, South, West and Najafgarh areas. The official said the MCD hopes to spread awareness and facilitate the prevention and control of vector-borne diseases in these areas.

The public and corporate firms are prompted to see out for water stagnation in their premises to anticipate mosquito breeding and dengue, jungle fever and chikungunya amid the rainy season, the official added.

According to official civic reports, the year observed about 205 dengue cases within the national capital till August 27. However, no deaths have been reported so far this year from the disease, the report added.
