New Delhi, Dec 4, 2022: Delhi Congress President Anil Chaudhary, who reached a polling booth in Dallupura in East Delhi to cast his vote for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi polls, said that he could not exercise his franchise as his name was not on the voters’ list at the polling booth.

“My name is neither in the voter list nor in the deleted list. My wife has voted. Officials are checking it,” Chaudhary told media present at the polling station.

Name on the voters’ list is required in order to cast the vote in any election. The election commission officials had requested the citizens to check their names on the list before going out to vote. Provisions were earlier introduced for the citizens to add missing names to the list. However, it is not clear whether Chaudhary’s name was on the list earlier.

Prior to voting, Chaudhary had urged the Delhi’s citizens to cast the vote “to ensure a corruption-free, drug-free, pollution-free, garbage-free, debt-free and mafia-free corporation.”

“Ensure you are not voting for those who polluted the air, water, city, society and politics! Vote to convert the polluted Delhi to a ‘Shining Delhi’,” he tweeted.

Both the ruling BJP and Aam Aadmi Party have put up 250 candidates each for the MCD elections. The Congress has 247 contestants and Bahujan Samaj Party has 132. There are also 384 independent candidates which brings the total to 1,349.
