Jammu, 01st July 2023: Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti today asked for an early hearing of a bundle of petitions contesting the revocation of Article 370 in August 2019 from Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud.
This comes as CJI Chandrachud is now on a tour of Jammu and Kashmir, where he delivered the opening address on the second day of the 19th All India Legal Services Authorities meeting in Srinagar on Friday, in addition to attending the foundation-laying ceremony for the new high court facility in Jammu the day before.
The PDP leader asked the CJI to expedite the hearings on Article 370 applications.
“We want to draw the CJI’s attention to the petitions that have been pending in the Supreme Court for the last four years, as well as to the plight of… people, particularly youth, who are imprisoned within and outside J&K without any trial,” Mehbooba said.
The Jammu and Kashmir PDP, National Conference (NC), and other parties have opposed the repeal of Article 370, which granted J&K special status.
