Meta spent $40 million on Zuckerberg’s report, claims Report

New Delhi, 9th July 2023: Over the last three years, Mark Zuckerberg’s company has spent more than $40 million on his personal protection. This stands in stark contrast to his family-run foundation’s financial backing (in the millions of dollars) for groups seeking to “defund the police.”

According to the New York Post’s investigative writer Lee Fang, since 2020 the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) has provided $3 million to PolicyLink, the group behind DefundPolice.

DefundPolice describes themselves as, “a one-stop-shop for organisers and advocates looking for tools, resources, and trainings to divest from policing and build safer communities.”

According to the story, CZI, which Zuckerberg created with his wife Priscilla Chan, has also given $2.5 million to “Solidaire,” an organisation that seeks to abolish the police.

Notably, according to a February business filing, Meta (Zuckerberg’s company) increased its spending on Zuckerberg’s security to $14 million by 2023. It was a $4 million rise over the previous year’s total of $10 million. The millionaire was permitted to utilise the funds for a variety of safety-related purposes.

The business stated that the increase in Zuckerberg’s security was made due to his “position and importance to Meta.” However the business emphasised that Zuckerberg, “has requested to only receive $1 in annual salary and does not receive any bonus payments, equity awards or other incentive compensation.”

The latest story linking Zuckerberg’s spending on personal protection with his backing for “defund the police” organisations is being interpreted as a reflection of his hypocrisy.
