Mumbai, 14th June 2023: Maharashtra Excise Minister Shambhuraj Desai intimated on Tuesday that the government is willing to reduce the number of ‘dry days’ when booze sales are prohibited if citizens make such a request.
The government usually declares a dry day when spirits sales and services are outlawed. Certain holidays or festivals are also usual when the state government declares a dry day.
Dry days also include national holidays such as Independence Day, Republic Day, and Mahatma Gandhi’s birth and death anniversaries.
In response to a question from reporters in Mumbai about intentions to limit the number of dry days since they are inconvenient for spirits consumers, the minister stated, “If people make a demand, we will consider it.” However, the demand must originate from the people.”
