Mob attacks BSF outpost in Meghalaya

Meghalaya, 26th June 2023: According to officials, locals stormed a border outpost in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills area on Sunday night, injuring at least five people, including two BSF troops.

According to officials, the incident occurred about 10 p.m. at Umsyiem hamlet near Dawki town, 100 km south of the state capital, when a mob attacked the outpost.

“In the last few days, we seized a huge number of items meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh and identified the smugglers,” BSF Meghalaya Frontier Inspector General Pradip Kumar informed.

As a result, they gathered a mob to attack the outpost, forcing the BSF to respond by firing into the air. At least two BSF troops were hurt as stones thrown by the crowd struck them. He further added that some of the villagers tried to enter the outpost forcefully and that they tried to enter the outpost forcefully.

The incident took place when a vehicle with three occupants allegedly broke down near the outpost.
