NEW DELHI : Arun Shourie today Participated in Times Literature Festival and spoke candidly about Indian political scenerio. Dissent which has become his trademark in recent times was on full display at the session where he remained fairly critical of right wing politics throughout the session.

With his vast experience both in public administration and journalism he touched different speheres of politics and criticized BJP Government at Centre as well as in different states.

Arun Shourie remains a well known Indian economist, journalist, author and politician. He has worked as an economist with the world bank as well as with the planning commission. Apart from that he has also been an editor of The Indian Express.

Talking about the electoral politics of India and how everything in the national political spectrum revolves around it, he said, “Politicians has to fool only 30% that too only for 3 weeks. Thereafter it is all about on working at own agenda and propganda”.

He was also fairly critical about presenting Hindutva as an idelaogy and said, “Hindutava ideology to me is the tool for bullying others. Hindutava ideology is fast being used by a major political party for sowing the victim hood mentality, for this same purpose Ram mandir issue is coming back and it is coming back to haunt all and yield nothing”.

He also said that this narrative has started in National politics because of an insecurity among the top brass if BJP. He claimed, “It is evidently becoming clear that Modi has realised that he will not be able to deliver promises. So he will now divide the people and conquer’.

Contrary to popular opinion, Arun has a completely different view about PM Modi and some other CM’s of BJP. He said, “Modi is a weaker PM and so is Aditya Yogi Nath , Devendra Fadnwis and Khattar. These all are weak CMs because some lack vision while some lack independence”.

He also didn’t leave out Media from his criticism and said, “Now people are running news papers and news channels to expand their business. Increasing commercialization of media outlet is surely a worrisome trend”.
