MoS Meenakshi Lekhi highlights India’s role in financial inclusion at IIA conference’24

New Delhi, 15th Feb: Minister of External Affairs & Culture Meenakshi Lekhi delivered a powerful address at the 2024 International Inclusion Alliance Conference held at the India Habitat Centre on February 15th. Emphasizing the theme of inclusivity, she began with the resounding message, “Let no one be left behind.” Lekhi underscored India’s pivotal role as a leader of the Global South, emphasizing its contribution to bridging the gap between the Global North and South, drawing from India’s unique position as a civilization with both ancient roots and modern institutions like democracy and an independent judiciary.

Highlighting the government’s proactive measures, she elaborated on initiatives such as the “Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna,” which has uplifted 25 crore people out of poverty and facilitated financial inclusion through the opening of bank accounts, particularly benefiting rural populations. Lekhi also commended India’s robust response to the Covid-19 pandemic, stressing the importance of a systematic vaccination process in effectively combating the virus.

In terms of economic inclusivity, Lekhi lauded India’s significant improvements in Ease of Doing Business and Ease of travel and living, alongside initiatives promoting sustainable food production such as millet cultivation. The government’s focus on food subsidies and monitored nutrition levels has contributed to ensuring adequate nutrition for all segments of society.

Moreover, Lekhi acknowledged the government’s successful hosting of the G-20 summit, underscoring its role as a platform for addressing pertinent international issues and concerns. Overall, her address reflected India’s commitment to inclusive development and its proactive efforts on both domestic and international fronts.
