Move in Action to Redress Common People’s
Hardship Due to Black Money Order

The Central Secretariat of the Communist Party of India (CPI) has issued the following statement to the media:

The Central Secretariat of the Communist Party of India while reiterating its commitment to fight against corruption, black money and fake currency notes, feel that the measures taken by the Narendra Modi government have created more hardships for the common people, particularly the vendors, daily wage earners and salaried class. The government should immediately review the process of demonetisation of currency.
The introduction of Rs. 2,000 currency note is causing much more difficulties as there are not enough currency notes of lesser value. The exchange should be in currency notes of Rs. 100, Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 only. Otherwise also the release of Rs. 2,000 currency note will create opportunities to double the quantum of black money. Withdraw Rs. 2,000 currency note from circulation.
If government is really sincere to curb the parallel economy based on black money, it should take the people into confidence about the WikiLeaks list of those Indians holding accounts in foreign banks, list of those who have investment in foreign countries leaked in the Panama leak papers. Government should take urgent actions against such holders of black money.
Besides, banks should take immediate measures to recover the money taken as loans and converted into Non-Performing Assets (NPA). Properties of such defaulters be confiscated.
There are reports that large number of people, including leaders of political parties, have deposited crores and crores of rupees in banks during the last month as they were aware of the demonetization move of the government. Banks should release the list of such depositors at all levels.
The Central Secretariat of the CPI calls upon all the party units to immediately organize mass action including demonstrations and dharnas at banks and income tax offices to stress the demands related to black money, deposits and investment in foreign countries and recovery of the NPAs. The Party appeals to all democratic forces and mass organisations to extend full support and join the struggle.
