New Delhi (19/12/2023): In a significant turn of events on December 18, 2023, the pages of Indian democracy witnessed a historic moment as 78 opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) were suspended from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. This included 33 MPs from Lok Sabha and 45 from Rajya Sabha, all of whom found themselves barred from parliamentary proceedings. The cause behind this mass suspension stemmed from the opposition’s relentless demand for a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah concerning a critical security breach.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, however, expressed dismay over the politicization of the issue, stating that it is regrettable that such a crucial matter is being used for political gains. He condemned the disruption caused by the opposition, asserting that entering the House, raising slogans, and disrupting proceedings go against the dignity of the Parliament, leading to the suspension of some of the dissenting MPs.

Amidst the festive ambiance of the Christian MP’s Forum’s Christmas Celebrations, Ten News seized the opportunity to speak with Rajya Sabha MP P Wilson regarding the tumultuous events surrounding the parliament security breach. Wilson emphasized the gravity of the situation, declaring December 18, 2023, as a historic date in Indian democracy.

Expressing his deep concern, Wilson reiterated the opposition’s simple demand for a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah. He criticized the suspension of 78 MPs as a severe blow to democracy, highlighting the unexpected scale of the action and its chilling effect on parliamentary proceedings. Wilson underscored the opposition’s position on the security violation, accusing the BJP of providing passes to individuals involved in the breach.

Drawing attention to the broader implications of the security lapse, Wilson contended that violations were not confined to the Parliament alone but extended to the nation’s security at large. He questioned the government’s ability to safeguard the country when even its elected representatives faced security risks.

Wilson disclosed alarming information, stating that the individual responsible for breaching security standards had infiltrated the Parliament multiple times before, suggesting a premeditated plan. Demanding accountability, he called upon the Honorable Prime Minister and Home Minister to provide answers on the matter.

Lok Sabha MP Saugauta Roy echoed these sentiments, pointing out the suspension of 92 MPs, with 40 from a single House. He alleged that the government’s actions were aimed at suppressing the opposition, particularly those vocal on the security breach issue.

Roy further emphasized the opposition’s demand for the suspension of the BJP Member of Parliament responsible for issuing passes in connection with the security breach. He called for accountability, asserting that the BJP leader involved should face suspension from Parliament, echoing the sentiments of a growing number of discontented MPs. The fallout from these suspensions is set to reverberate through the political landscape as the opposition intensifies its demands for answers and justice.
