New Delhi (India), 31st May 2023: Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, and Chinese Industry Minister Jin Zhuanglong spoke on “new energy vehicles” on Wednesday, the news was released by Beijing.
The two “exchanged views on the development of new energy vehicles and intelligent connected vehicles,” according to a readout on China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s website.
It did not provide any other information. Tesla representatives did not respond to inquiries on Musk’s travel plans.
Musk arrived in Beijing on Tuesday for the first time in more than three years.
China is the world’s largest market for electric vehicles, and Tesla revealed in April that it would construct a second enormous facility in Shanghai.
After the Gigafactory, which opened in 2019, this will be Tesla’s second plant in Shanghai.
Musk stated that he was “willing to continue to expand its business in China” at a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang on Tuesday, according to a foreign ministry summary.
According to Beijing, Musk also underlined his opposition to economic “decoupling” between China and the United States.
President Joe Biden said in November that Musk’s substantial commercial ties to China were “worthy” of inquiry.
Mao Ning, a spokeswoman for China’s foreign ministry, said on Tuesday that the government welcomed visits by overseas executives “to better understand China and promote mutually beneficial cooperation.”
