New Delhi (India), 13th March 2023: RRR has undoubtedly been the most celebrated movie of the past year. After bagging multiple awards on a global front, Ss Rajamauli’s movie has created history and has become the first song from any Indian film to win in the Best Song category.

The movie beat many strong competitors in the category like Applause (Tell It Like a Woman), Hold My Hand (Top Gun Maverick), Lift Me Up (Black Pather Wakanda Forever), and This is a Life (Everything Everywhere All at Once).

With this, the movie made history by becoming the first Indian-produced song to receive the prize. The first Indian song to win this prestigious award was Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire in 2009 in the same category. This is the second Indian song to do so.

The honour was accepted by poet Chandrabose and composer Keeravani. Keeravani gave his thank-you statement.

He said in his acceptance speech, “I grew up listening to The Carpenters and now here I am with the Oscars. There was only one wish on my mind, so was Rajamouli’s and our families’… ‘RRR’ has to win… Pride of every Indian… must put me on the top of the world. ” The speech was in tune to The Carpenters’ 1970s song Top of the World.

The song was also performed live at the Academy Awards and gained a standing ovation from all the attendees.
