National Hawkers Federation organizes protest against alleged encroachment by Government

New Delhi 25/11/2019: Today, National Hawkers Federation organized a massive protest against their continued harassment and eviction across Delhi.

One of the member of the federation said, “19 years have passed since the Municipal Corporation issued the last Tehbazaari. He added that in 2004 a National Policy on Urban Street Vendors was adopted by Government of India which was notified by the MCD in 2007. However, no applicant was given any licence.”

“In Karol Bagh, street vendors have been removed in the name of beautification. We can also help in beautification; we should also be allowed to setup shops with beauty.” Added the member.

During the protest APP Senior Leader Sanjay Singh also reached the venue and gave his support to the protesters and said “BJP is just trying to encroach their rights.”

NHF is the largest Federation of different hawkers’ and street-vendors’ unions, organizations and associations. It is active since 1999-2000 and currently 800 independent unions, organizations and associations along with 11 Central Trade Unions and affiliated hawker unions constitute the National Hawker Federation.

The federation demanded the passing of “The Street Vendors Bill, 2012” in the Monsoon session, to make Central Task Force for the Implementation of the Bill, to give houses to the hawkers under the RAY and JNNURM (BSUP), to include Hawkers in E.S.I for the Health Services and to make Hawkers welfare Board for the social security of the Hawkers.
