August 2, New Delhi: On Tuesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided 12 sites in the national capital and elsewhere in connection with the National Herald case, in which top Congress officials are suspected of breaking standards.

The National Herald case involves alleged financial irregularities under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), and it was filed about nine months ago after a trial court took cognizance of an Income Tax department probe conducted in 2013 on the basis of a private criminal complaint filed by former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Subramanian Swamy.

The raids came only days after the ED questioned Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi for over three hours on July 27. It was the third round of questioning for the case’s top leader.
