Mumbai, 06/07/2023: With the support of 40 elected party officials (MLAs, MLCs, and MPs), Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has placed a claim to the Nationalist Congress Party name and emblem.

However, Ajit Pawar needs 36 MLAs, or a two-thirds majority of the party’s 53 legislators, before the EC accepts his claim. Now, even after their written affidavits have been presented to the EC, all MLAs from the Ajit Pawar faction are being held in a Mumbai hotel. The legislators will not be permitted to leave the hotel until the faction can garner the support of 5-6 more MLAs.

According to Election Commission sources, the rebels named Ajit Pawar as party president on June 30 – just days before his surprise decision to join the ruling alliance.
