NCR’s SENIOR CITIZENS & RWA’s DEMAND INTRODUCTION OF DEDICATED COACH FOR ELDERLY IN METRO RAIL
New Delhi/Noida/ Gurgaon/Faridabad January 28, 2017 Senior citizens in the National Capital Region (NCR) as well various Resident Welfare Associations (RWA’s have urged the Union Urban development Ministry and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for introduction of separate dedicated coach in the lines of women coach for the elderly in the metro trains .
“At present few seats are already earmarked for senior citizens in the metro coaches but this does not solve the problem as seat allocated to senior citizens is subject to special courtsey/treatment by fellow young travellers ” said Mr K.K.Kapila, Patron in chief , Delhi/NCR Senior Citizen’s Welfare association and also Chairman, International Road Federation (IRF) .
“ As per statistics Delhi and the NCR region has more than Three million senior citizens out of the total of 90 million in the country. Most of them depend heavily on Metro rail for their means of transportation as it is safe, affordable and faster mode of travel. In day to day use of metro they find it difficult to board general compartments having two to four seats dedicated to elderly and handicapped. They get pushed and jostled , thus a dedicated coach exclusively for senior citizens will be of great help” said Mr K.K.Kapila,
“A Dedicated coach for senior citizens travelling long distance especially from Vaisahli, Noida, Faridabad and Gurgaon (Gurugram) will assure an easy accessibility particularly during rush hours when it is difficult for them to enter the train ” said Mr Lekh Raj Ahuja of sector 14 Gurgaon, who has to travel to Delhi regularly.
“Elderly have major role in the society a dedicated coach for us will make us feel important and show that society cares for us” added said Mr V N Bali, President, RWA Federation, Delhi East
“If there is a dedicated coach in Metro trains for senior citizens, they will wait and prefer a dedicated coach rather than getting into a crowded one ” said Mr B B Bhutan of Noida, who has to travel for his medical needs to Delhi every week .
