New Delhi, 22 September 2022: New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has ordered to get rid of all the BJP flags that were put on the electric poles at the India gate.

The authorities stated that no political parties or any private body have the power to install flags or boards or hoardings in Lutyen’s Delhi area. This decision came after the BJP had put up their flags on several electric poles near the India Gate roundabout.

They were also put in place on the flag holders, which were built into the poles that are used for displaying national flags on official events like Independence Day and Republic Day.

Officials from the NDMC stated that they have not authorized the installation of these political flags in any way. According to regulations, the NDMC only authorizes and grants authorization to government departments for the installation of national flags and the erection of hoardings for official purposes.

In the vicinity of New Delhi area, political parties and private businesses are not permitted to place any type of advertisements, hoardings, or flex there.

Meanwhile, BJP Delhi Chief, Adesh Gupta has clarified that the flags were not put there under his knowledge. “I will have to ask if any karyakarta has put them up.” While Kuljeet Chahal, general secretary of the Delhi BJP, remarked, “I’ll have to see for what purpose the flags were placed.”

Only after receiving permission and a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the neighborhood Delhi/traffic police and complying with all terms and conditions are they permitted to erect hoardings along the roadside. During Independence Day week, as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration, permission was even granted to place national flags on roundabouts,” officials further said.

Although NDMC has not received an official complaint on the BJP flags. “We have instructed the civil engineers/teams of the specific places to get the flags removed promptly. By tomorrow morning, the flags will be pulled down because doing so at night would disrupt the traffic,” an official said.
