New Delhi (India), 19th April 2023: The long-awaited crackdown on password sharing by Netflix has been postponed, but it may still happen soon.
Netflix stated in a letter to shareholders sent in conjunction with its Q1 results report that it had “shifted the timing” of the launch of paid sharing from late Q1 to Q2 as a result of changes it had made to the programme.
The company said, “We’re pleased with the most recent launches of paid sharing, and while we could have launched broadly in Q1, we found opportunities to improve the experience for members. We learn more with each rollout, and we’ve incorporated the latest learnings, which we think will lead to even better results.”
After launching the regulations in numerous nations, including New Zealand, Canada, and Spain, Netflix initially stated that it will do so “more broadly” in Q1, which ended on March 31. Currently, the programme is scheduled to begin this quarter, which started at the beginning of April and ends at the end of June.
Customers have voiced opposition to the streaming giant’s plans to move forward with its password enforcement. Many users declared on social media earlier this year that they would stop using their subscriptions as soon as the regulation became effective.
