DPCC STARTS DISTRICT-LEVEL FUNCTIONS TO CELEBRATE PT. NEHRU’S 125TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY
NEW DELHI, Nov 1—The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, under the leadership of its president Shri Ajay Maken, today began the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of free India’s first Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru by holding district-level functions at the Karol Bagh and Adarsh Nagar Districts. A short film on the life and achievements of Pt. Nehru was shown at both these functions.
Besides Shri Ajay Maken, prominent others who addressed the meetings at both the districts were AICC in-charge of Delhi Shri P.C.Chacko, former DPCC president Shri Arvinder Singh Lovely and ex-Delhi Minister Shri Haroon Yusuf. They appealed to the Congress workers to attend the concluding function of Pt. Nehru’s 125th birth anniversary celebrations at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadion on his birth day on November 14 in large number.
Shri Ajay Maken said Pt. Jawarhal Nehru laid a solid foundation for modern India’s progress and development in every area after the hard-won freedom struggle, and it was due to his vision, wisdom and fortitude that India has developed into a powerful world power. He said it was due to Pt. Nehru’s long vision and thinking that a country of India’s mammoth size with various religions, cultures and languages could be held together as a unified force. Shri Maken said Pt. Nehru’s policies and programmes helped quick progress of the country on all fronts, including industrialisation, science and technology, education, social upliftment and many other areas, and because of that, India can hold its own among the comity of nations as a power to reckon with. He said the Panch Sheel policy, which was Pt. Nehru’s brain child, is still relevant as more than ever when the world looks to peaceful solutions to solve major conflicts.
Shri Ajay Maken said the country forged ahead on all fronts under the leadership of Congress Prime Ministers, and Pt. Nehru was the tallest among them. He said Congress Party always fostered religious tolerance, friendship and amity, and held the democratic traditions of the country in high esteems.
AICC in-charge of Delhi Shri P.C.Chacko said when the country is being faced with an atmosphere of intolerance Pt. Nehru’s policies and programmes have become all the more relevant as he was an iconic leader who ensured the progress of all the castes, religions, communities and languages. He said Nehru Ji was an apostle of peace, and India should follow the path shown by him to the world for further development and progress
