GHAZIABAD: A new railway underpass is being constructed near the Hindon barrage to ease traffic congestion. Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has signed a MoU with the railways department, and the work has commenced. The Rs 17-crore two-way underpass will put an end to long traffic jams in trans-Hindon areas.

“The recent inauguration of the new bridge over the Hindon is only half the work of easing traffic along the trans-Hindon route. The other half is building the railway underpass, and I’m glad the work has commenced,” said Vijay Yadav, vice-chairman, GDA. “The design has been approved and the cost estimate for the railways has come to Rs 17 crore. We have already paid Rs 3 crore to them,” he said, adding that a two-lane road, originating from Vasundhara Sector 1 and up to the underpass, will also be built.

The underpass is scheduled to be built in one year, close to the existing one. The present underpass is narrow and congested, leading to long traffic jams every day. With a newer one being built, traffic between Raj Nagar Extension and trans-Hindon areas Vasundhara, Vaishali and Indirapuram is expected to ease considerably.
