Nithari serial killer Surendra Koli will face the gallows as the Supreme Court on Tuesday threw out his plea for revocation of death penalty, unimpressed by his sensational last-minute allegation that an influential neighbourhood surgeon accused of organ trade could possibly have killed the girls.

On September 8, the SC had during a midnight hearing stayed Koli’s scheduled execution in Meerut jail just hours before the hangman was to tie the noose around his neck.

The bench rejected Koli’s plea but took note of Jethmalani’s genuine grievance against the quality of legal aid given to poor accused. It asked district judges to ensure that henceforth, poor people accused in serious cases were given an experienced hand under legal aid services.
