Bihar, Sept 15th, 2022: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday announced that all backward states would be given special status if the non-BJP alliance comes to power in the 2024 elections.

“If we get an opportunity to form the government, we will surely give backward states special status. I am not just talking about Bihar, but also about other states that should get a special status”, he said.

This comes after Kumar recently visited Delhi for three days during which he met with leaders of other parties including Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal, and Sharad Pawar to form a united front against BJP and discuss strategy for the upcoming elections.

Kumar, who parted ways with BJP last month and formed a new government in Bihar with support from Tejashwi Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal and Congress, has been demanding special status for Bihar since 2007.
He asserted that the states deserving a special status would be definitely given so if his alliance emerges victorious in the 2024 general elections.

Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand have been voicing their demand for a special status for a long time, citing backwardness and poverty.
