IMA has already organized a Doctor’s Mahapanchayat on 25thMarch where medical fraternities from all over the country will gather which will decide the further course of action. The report provided by the parliament also features some demands recommended by the IMA.
The Parliamentary committee meeting report related to the NMC bill 2017 was tabled in the parliament yesterday. After the solid representations to the PSC, they have agreed to some of the demands amendable in the bill by IMA. Though the modifications are advisory and kept as recommendations to the government, IMA feels it is another step towards success.
“The first win was registered against the proposed bill on 2nd January when the surgical strike by IMA forced the government to refer the draft to the PSC. We believe that the medical fraternity has won again which is attributable to the month long mass contract program ‘Bharat Yatra’ which was flagged off on 25th February by our National President. The changes were required for the welfare of the public health and the quality of medical education in India. It is mandatory to keep the pressure sustained and focused until the government of India accepts it.” Says Dr R.N.Tandon, Secretary General, IMA
Dr Ravi Wankhedkar who is already on Bharat Yatra, has conveyed the message across all the medical students, doctors and other medical fraternities across the nation. The aim of the agitation will benefit the common masses, medical students and the medical education sector, which will also be aimed to improve the accessibility to primary healthcare and boost medical education in India.
