NMCG organizes Cleaning Drive at Kalindi Kunj Ghat in New Delhi on World Cleanup Day
National Mission for Clean Ganga organized a cleanliness drive at Delhi’s Kalindi Kunj Ghat along the Yamuna River on the occasion of World Cleanup Day. This cleanliness drive was conducted as a part of the ongoing ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ fortnight. More than 300 people participated in the cleanliness drive. Shri Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, DG National Mission for Clean Ganga, led from the front and inspired others to join in the cause. Several NGOs such as Tree Craze Foundation, Lehar Foundation, Smile Foundation and Aarohan Street to School Foundation also worked alongside NMCG in cleaning the Ghat.
Senior office-bearers from RWAs like United Residents of Delhi, Purvanchal Morcha,etc joined the Ghat cleaning exercise.
School children from Jain Public School, Daryaganj and specially abled Bhavesh and others, all lent a helping hand in this cleaning initiative. Officials along with all the kids took the “Swachhata pledge” and promised to keep the surroundings clean.
Other senior officials of NMCG also joined the cause and lent a hand in the cleanliness drive. SDMC extended the required support for cleaning and carrying the dirt away for disposal.
World Cleanup Day is a global social action program aimed at combating the global solid waste problem. It is celebrated with litter cleanup and waste mapping activities spanning every time zone across the world. World Cleanup Day harnesses the power of everyday people to achieve incredible things by joining together. Its beauty lies in cooperation and collaboration: building bridges between disparate communities, and including all levels of society – from citizens to business, to government.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Mishra said,”While the Government is leading the way, Delhi’s residents must take ownership of the Yamuna and come forward to participate in keeping the riverfront clean.”
Rampant use of plastic and other non-biodegradable items is one of the major pollutants in our river systems and the case with Yamuna and its ghats is much the same and requires immediate attention. NMCG organises such regular cleanliness drives along various ghats including the Kalindi Kunj Ghat to ensure cleanliness along the river and to seek public participation.
