No changes made to Darwin’s theory being taught in schools, confirms Education Minister

Pune, 21st June 2023: The Union Minister for Education and Skill Development, Dharmendra Pradhan, confirmed no changes to Darwin’s Theory of Evolution in the Class XI and XII curriculum had been made.

Speaking to media at an event at the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute in Pune, he asserted that the ongoing controversy claiming that Darwin’s Theory of Evolution has been removed from science books by the NCERT and periodic tables have been dropped is not true and that nothing of the kind has happened.

He also added that the government is working with the NCERT authorities and gathering information on the matter. He stated that periodic tables are taught in Classes 9 and 11, and 12. According to the NCERT, just one or two instances linked to the theory were excluded. Mr Pradhan promised that new textbooks would be developed per the current National Education Policy.
