New Delhi, 21st May 2023: The State Bank of India (SBI) has issued a detailed clarification regarding the Rs 2000 notes exchange.

Authorities confirmed that the customers are allowed to exchange the currency for its valuation upto Rs. 20,000 without having a requisition slip or an identity proof.

The bank’s clarification comes in the wake of social media rumours and misinformation requesting tenderers to submit a form along with identifying credentials such as an Aadhaar card.

The Reserve Bank of India withdrew 2,000 notes from circulation on Friday and ordered citizens to deposit them into their accounts or swap them at nearby bank locations until September 30. The central bank has invited consumers to approach banks for deposits and/or exchanges beginning May 23 in order to allow banks adequate time to prepare for the process.
