No One should marry unless he or she stands on their own feet : Brig. Behl
A Seminar on the Women Empowerment on 8th March, was held under the aegis of Intellectuals Foundation at Inder Road, Dehradun where women achievers in various fields were honoured. Dr. S. Farooq, the noted industrialist presided over the function. Ex-Chairman of Mahila Ayog, Uttarakhand Smt. Sushila Baluni was the chief guest along with Dr. Anand Sharma, Director MET Department. All presented their views on women empowerment, in their own way specially Dr. Farooq. Those who were honoured on the occasion included Secretary of Rajya Mahila Ayog, Smt. Sujata Singh, Rajya Mahila Sanrakshan Adhikari Ramindri Mandarwal, President IMA, Dr. Asha Rawal, Former President of Bar Council Mrs. Raziya Beg, Assistant Professor of Garhwal University Mrs. Seema Dhawan, Principal of Bhawani Inter College, Mrs. Pushpa Bhandari, Pradhan of Sahaspur Block Ranjeeta Tomar, Secretary of Safar Nagar Nigam Safai Karamchari Union Mrs. Meeni Gagat, social activist Mrs. S. Talwar, Noted Garhwali poet Veena Pani Joshi. Brig. K.G. Behl, Patron of the society presented vote of thanks and pointed out how he was involved in Women Empowerment for the last 25 years. He mentioned that initially we started with literacy programme held in village through ‘nukkad nataks’ and spread the message of literacy. Later it was found that literacy in itself is not enough and schools, colleges and universities were approached to provide free education to girl students so that they may stand on their own feet. In this connection those who were not interested in studies needed to be given some vocational training to enable them to start own enterprises and stand on their feet. The function was compared by the Secretary Sh. Harsh Nidhi Sharma Advocate. Mr. R.K. Bakshi, Er. Narendra Singh.Veena Sharma from Rajasthan, Sunil Aggarwal were also present on the occasion.
It is here that Brig. Behl suggested that no one should marry unless he or she stands on their own feet. It will solve many of the problems being faced by the women in different fields.
