NOIDA,(26/2/2019): Within a month of taking charge for the cleaning and sanitation of the residential sectors, the RWA body crash landed.

The Noida Authority has suspended the contracts it signed with four RWA’s of sectors 47,49, 52 and 66, that came into effect from February 1.

On February 12 sanitation workers working for Noida Authority and private contractors went on strike and refused to work under RWA’s and demanding permanent jobs. The strike which RWA’s allege to be provoked by syndicate of labour contractors and and middlemen who feared loss of income, went on till February 21, affecting civil works across the city.

Noida Authority OSD Rajesh Kumar Singh said, “we have suspended the contracts following a meeting with striking sanitation workers. 30% of the work has been affected due to the strike”. He also added that “the decision on the future of contracts would be mutually arrived at”.

NP Singh, President of FONRWA said, “Noida authority came under pressure from middlemen and brokers, who take 40% of the commission on sanitation works. Because of this rampant corruption that sanitation works should be given to RWA’s.
