North, South Korea Fire Missiles off Each Other’s Coasts in signs of escalated tensions
Nov 2, 2022: On Wednesday, North Korea launched a missile that landed less than 60km off South Korea’s city of Sokcho.
The South Korean military labeled it as an “unacceptable” breach of their territory. In response to North Korea, South Korea fired three air-to-ground missiles which reports state landed a similar distance past the Northern Limit Line (NLL).
On Tuesday, North Korea warned that South Korea and the US would pay “the most horrible price in history” if they continued to carry out joint military threats, seen as a veiled threat to utilize nuclear weapons.
The North is expected to restart nuclear weapons testing soon after a five-year break, according to US and South Korean intelligence.
