Occultist arrested for cheating woman

New Delhi, Jul 2 (PTI) An occultist who claimed to cure diseases through divine powers has been arrested for cheating a woman to the tune of several lakh rupees, police said today.

The complainant, Charu Gupta, a resident of Rohini, saw an advertisement of one Baba Kamal Pasha on television and visited him for seeking a cure for her father’s illness, in October 2013, Vijay Singh, DCP (North West) said.

During her frequent visits to Pasha’s office in Ranibagh, she deposited Rs 2.53 lakh in a bank account and paid Rs 1.90 lakh in cash for performing various rituals.

However, in June 2014, the office closed down. Pasha’s mobile phone was switched off and he became untraceable, he said.

28-year-old Wasim was identified as Pasha through an investigation and was recently arrested from Murad Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, the officer added.
