New Delhi, July 25, 2023: The Meteorological Office has issued a forecast of intense rainfall in Odisha following the formation of a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, just off the coast in the southern part of the state.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) released its bulletin on Tuesday evening, predicting the likelihood of a low-pressure area forming over the region, with the system possibly intensifying into a depression by July 26.

The IMD’s bulletin has warned of heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) in regions including Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam until Tuesday morning. Additionally, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected in most places in the south interior of Odisha.

For Tuesday and Wednesday, the IMD has issued an Orange warning (be prepared). On July 25, heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) is expected to occur at isolated locations in Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Rayagada districts.

Moreover, a Yellow warning (be updated) has been issued for Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Balangir, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, and Mayurbhanj districts, signaling the likelihood of heavy rainfall.

As the cyclonic circulation gains strength, the state of Odisha is taking necessary precautions to tackle the anticipated heavy rainfall and potential impacts. Residents in the warned districts are advised to stay updated with weather advisories and be prepared for any emergency situations that may arise.

With the formation of a depression on the horizon, authorities are closely monitoring the weather developments and implementing necessary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of the public.

Odisha is bracing itself for the upcoming weather conditions as it gears up to face the challenges brought on by the intensified rainfall in the coming days.
