Odissi Dancer Khyati Rawat to Present Solo Recital at India International Centre — A Tribute to the Timeless Guru-Shishya Parampara

New Delhi News (10 November 2025): The rhythm of tradition and devotion will find expression this Tuesday as Odissi dancer Khyati Rawat, a dedicated torchbearer of the Guru Deba Prasad Das Gharana, takes centre stage at the CD Deshmukh Auditorium, India International Centre (IIC), New Delhi. The performance, scheduled from 5:30 to 6:30 PM, is part of the IIC Double Bill: Dance Recitals series, supported by TEN NEWS NETWORK.

Under the mentorship of eminent Odissi exponent Guru Dr. Jyoti Shrivastava, Khyati will present her solo recital — a culmination of over a decade of rigorous training, spiritual discipline, and artistic exploration. The performance is not merely a showcase of technique, but a heartfelt offering — an artistic prayer flowing through rhythm, grace, and emotion.

A Journey Rooted in Tradition

Khyati Rawat began her Odissi journey at the age of nine under the tutelage of Guru Dr. Jyoti Shrivastava at Vaishali Kala Kendra, Noida — an institution deeply rooted in the Deba Prasad Das Gharana. Over twelve years of dedicated training, she imbibed the essence of the Guru-Shishya Parampara, blending devotion with discipline. She has also been fortunate to receive guidance from Padma Shri Guru Durga Charan Ranbir, thus carrying forward the lineage of Late Guru Shrinath Raut.

Her performances have graced prestigious platforms such as the Odissi International Dance Festival (Bhubaneswar), Delhi International Arts Festival (IHC), Chausathi Yogini Mahotsav, and Bharat Parv (Red Fort), among others. Having assisted her Guru in landmark festivals like Mukteshwar Dance Festival and Odissi International, Khyati now steps into a new chapter with her first solo recital — a personal milestone in her artistic evolution.

Speaking to Ten News Network, Guru Dr. Jyoti Shrivastava expressed deep pride and emotion: Khyati is one of those rare disciples who truly understands the essence of the Guru Parampara. Over the past 45 years, I have trained countless students, but many faded away in life’s crowds. Khyati, however, has stayed rooted — steadfast in her learning, humble in her spirit, and devoted to the tradition. After 12 years of intense learning, she is now presenting her own Ek Nitya for the first time. It fills me with immense joy and hope to see the Parampara continue through her.

Beyond the Stage: Balancing Science and Art

Remarkably, Khyati is also pursuing her Master’s in Forensic Science at NFSU, Tripura Campus, balancing her academic pursuits alongside her passion for Odissi. Her journey reflects the harmony of intellect and intuition — where the discipline of science meets the spirituality of dance.

Founded and directed by Guru Dr. Jyoti Shrivastava, Vaishali Kala Kendra stands as a sanctum of Odissi, dedicated to preserving the purity of the Deba Prasad Das style. The institution has become a nurturing ground for dancers who embody both technical precision and spiritual depth.

Khyati said that, Vaishali Kala Kendra has shaped me not just as a dancer, but as an individual. Through the many productions and festivals like Guru Pranam Utsav, I’ve learned that dance is not about performance alone — it’s about living the art every day with devotion and gratitude.

Titled Parampara Pravah — the flow of grace — Khyati’s recital at IIC is envisioned as a homage to her lineage, tracing the spiritual stream from Guru Deba Prasad Das to her present-day practice.
