New Delhi, July 8, 2022: In conversation with Ten News, the Passport Man of India, Dr. Dnyaneshwar Mulay, a member of the NHRC and a former Indian Foreign Service diplomat shared the greatest personal achievements of his life. “I think there are a series of such instances when I felt elated and happy,” he said.

“In one of my book release functions, Gulzar Ji had come,” he narrated. “He had read my book before coming to the function,” he stated. Dr. Mulay described that Gulzar had taken a reference from his book about picking up fallen coins from the street and stated, ‘you picked up those coins one by one, now I will pick up each one of your literary coins’. “And then he wrote an article about it,” he said.

Dr. Mulay also shared that when he was in Syria, he and his wife wrote a book about Syria in the English language which was later translated into Hindi and Arabic. “And that book was very popular in Syria. For its publication, the Cultural Minister of Syria came there. The specialty of the book was that it kind of introduced the country of Syria and its people in a fairly positive way. Such a book did not exist in English or Arabic, written by a foreigner,” he explained and stated that the Cultural Minister was so pleased with the book, that he offered Dr. Mulay and his wife honorary citizenship of Syria. “It was perhaps only for public functions or formality, but it came from his heart.”

When Dr. Mulay was in the Maldives as a commissioner, “I started the first literature organization in that country,” he claimed. “And from the first year onwards, they started a poetry writing competition for the Maldivians, and they named it after me. It is called Dr. Dnyaneshwar Mulay Poetry Competition in the Maldives,” he said joyfully. “And every year it is held in the Maldives, even till today.”

“There are several events and occasions when I was felicitated with my mother, with my father, that also gives you a great joy,” he said. “I try to tell everyone that they are my inspiration, for their qualities of being simple, honest, and hardworking,” he said.

Dr. Mulay talked about another instance that occurred during his retirement. “31st January 2019, as I came down from my office on the tenth floor, in Akbar Bhawan, I saw that the entire CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) was standing there and they told me that we are giving a guard of honor,” he narrated and talked about the good relations he had with the CISF when he was in the service. “That was a moment that really moved me from inside.”

“It’s very satisfying for me, however small it might be, that I made a big change in that society,” Dr. Mulay said. “I tried to change the lives of people, as much as it was possible for me and I continue to do that even today because work never stops.”
