Oppenheimer Earns ₹13cr at Indian Box Office on Day 1, gets best opening among Hollywood movies

New Delhi, 22nd July 2023: Oppenheimer, the highly awaited film by director Christopher Nolan, has taken Indian theatres by storm. According to preliminary estimates released by industry tracker Sacnilk, the film grossed an amazing Rs 13-14 crore on its first day in India.

The film, starring Cillian Murphy as theoretical scientist J Robert Oppenheimer, hit the theatres on July 21.

Audiences were excited by the legendary conflict between Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. However, Oppenheimer surpassed Barbie by a wide margin on the first day.

Barbie earned Rs 5-5.50 crore, while Oppenheimer had the greatest opening day for a Hollywood film in India this year, even exceeding Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, which earned Rs 12.50 crore on its first day. Furthermore, it outperformed Vin Diesel’s Fast X, which premiered in India on May 19 with Rs 12.50 crore.

The film’s success was not restricted to major cities; it also struck a chord with audiences in smaller towns and cities across the country.
Critics also lavished praise on Oppenheimer, praising Cillian Murphy’s superb portrayal of J Robert Oppenheimer. Shalini Langer of The Indian Express gave the film 4.5 stars.

Aside from Cillian Murphy, the film boasts an excellent cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, and Matt Damon in key roles.
