Opposition in Andhra Pradesh alleges political patronage of illegal casinos near Agripalli

Representatives of the YSR Congress Party have stepped up criticism of the coalition government of Andhra Pradesh, saying that illegal gambling venues are allegedly continuing to operate openly and without serious counteraction. The party places responsibility for this on cabinet ministers and on law enforcement agencies, which, according to the opposition, do not respond to complaints and reports from local residents.

These statements were made at separate briefings at the YSR Congress Party’s central office in Tadepalli. The party describes the situation as a test of the oversight and law-enforcement system’s effectiveness, although there is still no independent confirmation for most of the claims in the public domain.

Where, according to YSRCP, the gambling spots are concentrated

In the YSR Congress Party, the main hub of the story is linked to the Agripalli area in Eluru district, Andhra Pradesh. The speeches mention the surroundings of Pothavarappadu, Agripalli mandal, as well as a connection to the Nuzvid Assembly segment, which opposition members cite as a politically significant reference point.

The opposition claims that, in addition to residents of various districts of the state, participants from neighboring Telangana allegedly come to these venues. Such geography, they say, indirectly points to a stable organization of the flow of players and to the fact that this is not about isolated episodes, but about a long-operating infrastructure.

Reddy also claimed that signs were installed on site, and this, in his assessment, looked like a blatant challenge to rules and oversight.

Whom Reddy is addressing and what he is seeking

In a separate part of his speech, Reddy addressed questions to the government representative from Nuzvid, cabinet head N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and Home Minister Anitha. The essence of the claims came down to the fact that, despite the presence of reports and complaints, according to the YSR Congress Party, no consistent actions to shut down the venue are visible.

Among the demands and requests voiced by Reddy were allowing journalists access to inspect the premises and publishing details about who exactly was detained during possible police actions, including mention of representatives of the Telugu Desam Party. He also separately drew attention to the presence of an ambulance from the 108 emergency service near the venue, interpreting this as a reason for additional questions to the organizers and oversight bodies.

Vangaveti Narendra and the shift from gambling to drugs

YSR Congress Party state spokesperson Vangaveti Narendra, at a briefing in Tadepalli, broadened the topic by linking gambling to the growth of drug trafficking. He claimed that under the current coalition in the state, both gambling practices and the spread of drugs, including MDMA and ganja, are allegedly increasing at the same time, while the authorities’ response appears insufficient.

Narendra also voiced personal accusations, alleging the involvement of Minister Parthasarathi and his entourage in the operation of the casino near Agripalli. According to the opposition, the venue allegedly operates under political patronage, and the organizers and people associated with them receive regular commissions. Raids and figures voiced by the opposition

Separately, YSR Congress Party representatives referred to police raids, describing them as large-scale. According to them, during one of the recent raids, 280 people were on the premises, 50 lakh rupees in cash were seized, as well as 120 cars and 50 two-wheelers. Narendra contrasted the current situation with the period of former state head Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. He recalled the work of the Special Enforcement Bureau, to which he attributed the destruction of ganja plantations on 11,500 acres and the launch of alternative income sources for tribal communities worth 500 crore rupees.

At the same time, he criticized the disbanding of the SEB and the creation of the EAGLE unit, calling it a weak replacement with limited capabilities. The YSR Congress Party said it intends to seek inspections and the closure of the spots, and is also considering appeals to legal authorities and public protest actions if, in its assessment, the authorities do not take steps.
