New Delhi (India), April 12, 2023: Key opposition parties of the country have united to explore the possibility of a united fight against the ruling BJP ahead of the 2024 general election.
In a high profile meeting, top leaders of the Congress party, Janata Dal (United), and Rashtriya Janata Dal gathered in Delhi to unite all opposition parties for the upcoming polls.
The meeting was attended by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Bihar Chief Minister and JDU leader Nitish Kumar, and Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister and RJD chairperson Tejashwi Yadav.
According to Kharge, the meeting was a “historic step” aimed at raising the people’s voice and providing a new direction for the country. The opposition leaders pledged to protect the Constitution and save the country.
As the 2024 Lok Sabha election approaches, opposition parties are exploring new strategies to take on the incumbent BJP. However, some parties are yet to make their stand on joining any front clearly.
The Trinamool Congress, for example, initially announced that it would contest the Lok Sabha polls alone but appeared to change its stand after Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as an MP.
Another key opposition force that has yet to make its stand clear on joining any front is the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Meanwhile, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi has made moves for the opposition front but does not want Congress in it.
